Q Wins 9 Davey Awards!

Posted On: October 22, 2013

Q Media is pleased to announce 2 Gold and 7 Silver International Davey Awards are now sitting proudly on our shelves. The International Academy of Visual Arts honored our storytelling – from commercials that help you find your perfect volunteer match on Getinvolved.ca to internal communications, web and televisions series for clients like TVO, Direct Energy, SickKids and the Globe & Mail.

Winter scene of snow against a colourful mural with a girl in a winter coat2013 Gold Award in Commercials – Low Budget ($2500-$5,000) for the Getinvolved.ca Commercials. We would like to thank our client Nancy Chapelle at TVO for her vision and support.  Graeme Mathieson developed an awesome creative text treatment that inspires volunteers to get involved.

2013 Gold Award in Corporate Image for Manulife Financial – Investing Time.  DOPs Sasha Moric and Dave Dunville’s steadicam work brought a fluid and poetic look-and-feel to this video, which was launched to celebrate Manulife Financial’s commitment to volunteering as their signature cause.  Production was seamless working with our partners at Volunteer Canada and with project lead at Manulife Financial Jeronimo De Miguel.

An animated/live action scene of a boy pumping weights2013 Silver Award in Online Advertising and Marketing – Not-for-Profit for the SickKids – The Great Camp Adventure.  SickKids’ Lisa Charendoff worked with us to develop a wonderful and energetic animated/live-action commercial for their latest fundraising campaign.  Creative Matt Garbulinski’s whimsical animation added just the right touch.

2013 Silver Award in Online Film and Video – Original Web Series for PULL.  Producers Christine McGlade and Richard Quinlan, alongside Graeme Mathieson and Steve Lang, got to talk to the biggest names in technology over several weeks of filming.  TVO Producers Dan Dunsky and Daniel Kitts supported the series on The Agenda with Steve Paikin, with both on-air and social media campaigns throughout the summer of 2013.

Frank Bialystok with his family at his bar mitzvah2013 Silver Award in Film and Video – Social Issues for the Trillium Gift of Life Network My Second Bar Mitzvah, featuring a second bar mitzvah for Frank Bialystok’s 13-year-old transplanted liver.

2013 Silver Award in Film and Video – Employee Communications for Direct Energy Weather Incident.  This internal communications piece celebrated the heroes of an extreme weather event that paralyzed Direct Energy gas plants across Texas.  Having to shoot winter scenes in 103 degree heat was a challenge tackled by the entire team – Dorothy Engleman hauled bags of ice around the plant, Steve Lang and James Judges focused on extreme close ups and backlit shots, and back in Toronto Matt Bennett created digital snow in post.  And it all came together thanks to the vision of our inspirational client Justine Williams.

Host Stefania Yarhi with the Birks end plate2013 Silver Award in Content – Video for Birks Engagement How-To’s.  Our everything-production girl Caitie Drewery worked with the Globe & Mail to create this dynamic web series for Birks.   Hosted by style blogger Stefania Yarhi, and written by Caitie, this engagement how-tos for men delivered on all fronts.

2013 Silver Award in Film and Video – Low Budget (under $700/min) for Luis’ Story.  We were proud to work pro-bono on a two-part series for SERVE!, an incredible organization that helps build skills and confidence in young people at risk.  A deft touch by director Jordan Canning and music supplied by Luis himself, aka SPIN el Poeta, has made this a powerful outreach and fundraising tool to help transform lives.

2013 Silver Award in TV/Cable Programs for Getinvolved!  Now in our fifth season with over 100 episodes, Getinvolved! has profiled and inspired activists, innovators and social entrepreneurs from 9 to 90.

None of these awards would have been possible without the contribution of everyone here at Q. Shout outs to Stewart, May, Jeremy, Field, Josh and Peggy!

The Davey Awards honours small firms around the world who derive their strength from big ideas, rather than stratospheric budgets.
