Friends of Q: Rudayna
Meet Rudayna, Q Former Community Manager of non profit venture, Getinvolved.ca.
Community Planner. Fashionista. Explorer.
Favourite expression: “Just dance it off”
Favourite children’s book: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe — though I barely remember it after all this time!
Website you visit the most: Getinvolved.ca
A free day is spent: Reading, daydreaming, and spending time with friends.
Biggest pet peeve: People who leave the water running while brushing their teeth. It makes me crazy.
Favourite story to tell: The time my best friend goaded me into being in a Bollywood movie while we were in India. It turned into 10 hours of shooting for a “dance club” scene with at least a hundred other foreigners. While shooting I managed to rip a dress, meet one of my current close friends, and dance alongside Omi Vaidya. We were each paid what amounted to $10, which can go a long way at local spots in Mumbai. Needless to say, we blew it all late that night once we got back into the city.
Something quirky about yourself: I can sleep anywhere. I think it partly comes from a lot of traveling and late nights: standing on a train in Paris, a park bench in Prague, amongst stray cats in Calcutta, in a stranger’s pick up truck — you name it, I’ve slept on it.
What did you want to grow up to be? When I was really young, I wanted to be a math teacher.
Why aren’t you doing that now? Algebra happened. Letters met numbers and I chose letters.
What’s your “Q” connection? My friend saw the job posting and thought the position sounded great for me. I agreed and I suppose I convinced the team here too!
What do you like most about working at Q? The people, hands down. While I focus on Getinvolved.ca, I constantly hear people buzzing around, camera gear rolling in, and people who are sincerely passionate and great at what they do. There are a lot of laughs.
What makes you happy? Doing things that make a difference. Both Q and Getinvolved marry my love of storytelling and social impact. Also, coffee.
