Here’s a glimpse of your car’s future: the radio will warn you about black ice or approaching emergency vehicles, your teen’s driving behavior can be monitored on a smart phone; had a few too many at the local pub, well sorry, your car won’t start. These are among the dozens of technologies being developed and prototyped in Ontario for the automotive industry. This project was produced for Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment. To say it appealed to our inner geek is an understatement. One of the interesting facts: while we’ve all heard stories of Blackberry’s recent woes, what you may not know is that 60% of the entertainment systems in cars produced in North America run on Blackberry’s QNX software.
