Still from the House Hippo - some great Canadian content

Q Best Video: Canadian Shorts

Staying creatively inspired can be a tough gig. At Q Media, we try and up our game by watching as much TV, Youtube, Netflix, HotDocs and movies as we can. Because the best way to get your creative juices flowing is to watch some killer content. Something that blows your mind, makes you smile, or takes your breath away. That’s why we launched the “Q Best” weekly contest. Each week, someone from the office poses a challenge to the rest of the office: “find me the best video on the internet that overcomes a creative challenge.” A ranking is then held over Friday lunch as we all watch them together.

This week’s challenge: the best Canadian content.

Curated by Allison

During my week as curator I asked the team to look for the best video made in Canada. No one was surprised that Bob and Doug’s “Great White North” made it into the top three. But when it came down to a vote for the front runner, the millennials in the room couldn’t help but vote for a video that boggled their minds as kids.

1st Place: In addition to making them nostalgic, House Hippo by Concerned Children’s Advertisers was a great video to see at a young, impressionable age. It has a great message: don’t believe everything you see or hear on television. And as a piece of branded content, it was hugely successful. Buzzfeed still jokingly calls it the PSA that gave every 90s kid trust issues.
