Still from Go Pro Video as the best dance video

Q Best Video: Dance

Staying creatively inspired can be a tough gig. At Q Media, we try and up our game by watching as much TV, Youtube, Netflix, HotDocs and movies as we can. Because the best way to get your creative juices flowing is to watch some killer content. Something that blows your mind, makes you smile, or takes your breath away. That’s why we launched the “Q Best” weekly contest. Each week, someone from the office poses a challenge to the rest of the office: “find me the best video on the internet that overcomes a creative challenge.” A ranking is then held over Friday lunch as we all watch them together.

This week’s challenge: the best dance video.

Curated by Rudayna

I can watch dance videos for hours – whether modern, hip hop, jazz, or tap – I am completely entranced by the creativity people bring to movement to tell stories and evoke emotions. When I asked the team to find the best video showcasing dance, I was impressed by the wide breadth of eras and genres they pulled from.

1st Place: This concept is beyond impressive and unlike anything I’ve seen before. Gro Pro Waltz captures a fantastic performance from daring heights, and on top of that, provides a unique perspective. By using a Go Pro, the audience gets the dancer’s view, commentary, and a better understanding of how complex this performance was to deliver.

2nd Place: I hadn’t even heard of Busby Berkeley before this video contest and still struggle to understand how this scene was shot in the 1940s, without modern technology. After a bit more reading, I’ve learned how revolutionary and influential Busby Berkeley’s choreography, direction, and techniques were. You definitely need to watch the video!

3rd Place: Les Twins are a really fun, talented pair of, you guessed it, dancing twins. They’ve accompanied hip-hop and pop heavy weights on tour like Missy Elliot, Beyonce, and Kanye West. If, like me, you don’t care for Meghan Trainor’s music, you can turn this video on mute and it will STILL be impressive.
